PARKINSON'S DISEASE

"How to take back control of your life, even while living with Parkinson's Disease."

Have you noticed you're having trouble keeping your balance or having a hard time doing daily tasks, like getting up and down from a chair? With a Parkinson's Diagnosis, it's tempting to assume your best days are behind you because you have a progressive neurological disorder.

You may not know when it was that you began to limit your activities because of the stiffness, slowness, poor balance and coordination.
It has added up to changing how you move around and function every day. If this is happening to you, you're not alone. We hear these types of things all the time. In fact, Parkinson's Disease is one of the most common conditions we see at HouseFit.

And when it comes to living with Parkinson's Disease, everyone we see wants to know...

"How Do I Slow Down The Progression?"

Most people realize that exercise is a key component for slowing the progression of the disease and staying active and independent as long as possible, but they continue not to take action because they don't know what steps to take or where to go to receive specialized Parkinson's treatments OR they don't believe that exercise will "really work" for them. The great news is that there are several options to help you manage your Parkinson's symptoms and live life on your terms. Read on to find out more about our Specialty Parkinson's Treatments.

I have Parkinson's. It was affecting my balance and that made it difficult to participate in simple, everyday activities outside of the house, like going out to eat or going to the grandkids' soccer games or sporting activities.

After a fall down some stairs, 5 broken ribs, a stay in the hospital, and then a stay in rehab, I decided one way to fight PD was with exercise. I started taking group exercise classes at HouseFit. My movement disorder neurologist recommended some additional physical therapy. I had previously been in PT with another provider, but the staff, the atmosphere, the focus on older adults, their approach to fitness are some of the reasons I decided to do my Physical Therapy at HouseFit.

My balance has improved. My confidence is up. I'm more active. My wife said that besides my improved balance, she has noticed a definite change for the better in my outlook on life.

I have Parkinson's Disease and my symptoms were getting worse. I was having more balance issues, my tremors were getting worse and I was unable to get up off of the floor or out of a chair by myself.

After starting services at HouseFit, I was able to do things I haven't done in years!  We took an Alaskan cruise and I was able to canoe and hike through the forest and I was able to walk up the stairs each day to our cabin on the 7th floor!

My balance has improved. My stamina is better. My tremors have improved. I am strong enough to get up and down from the floor by myself. I am able to get in and out of a chair. I am able to go up and down the stairs again.
