YOUR DIZZINESS JOURNEY
"How to put an end to dizzy spells and vertigo, while improving your balance and independence."
You've experienced chronic dizzy spells or recurrent vertigo and brush it off as a normal part of aging. You may think that because your doctor told you it's a "normal" for someone your age and that it's something you'll have to learn to live with.
As you continue to experience more dizzy spells, you begin to lose hope that they will ever go away. Your physician may have even prescribed medications like Meclizine or Antivert, without success. Attempting to avoid another episode and a potential risk for falls, you are now starting to limit your activities.
You may not know when it was that you started to lose your confidence, but now it's beginning to limit what you're able to do. If this is happening to you, you're not alone. We hear these types of things all the time. In fact, Dizziness and Vertigo are some of the most common problems we see at HouseFit.
And when it comes to dizzy spells, everyone we see wants to know...
"Will This Dizziness Ever Go Away?"
Most people realize that their dizzy spells won't go away on their own. As soon as you think it's been awhile since you've had an episode, the dizziness will sneak up on you when you roll over in bed and then the whole room is spinning. Or maybe it happens when you bend over to pick up something from the floor, or turn your head too quickly and you end up with another fall.
Many people don't take action because their doctor never told them that Physical Therapy could help. They didn't know that it could resolve and manage their dizzy spells long-term without the use of medications. Fortunately, there are Physical Therapists specially trained in dizziness, which is also known as Vestibular Therapy. Continue reading to find out more about our Vestibular Therapy Services.

I was experiencing recurring bouts of vertigo, something I've dealt with most of my adult life. Turning my head too quickly, working in my yard on a warm day, or washing a floor was enough to send me to bed for a few hours, along with fearing that I might fall. No definitive cause was identified so I just tried to live with it.
Now retired and unwilling to accept the status quo, I began doing some research about vestibular disorders and found information about HouseFit. I liked what I heard about their approach and began Physical Therapy. I learned exercises to desensitize my body to stimuli which trigger the vertigo response. Although not a cure, these exercises have made a difference - practiced every day, it now takes stronger stimulus to result in vertigo. I am more confident in my day-to-day activities, and able to do the things I want to do. I consider HouseFit my partners in health - a team helping me to continue living a full, active and independent life. |
