YOUR INDEPENDENCE JOURNEY
"How to continue living in your own home and take care of yourself, even if you think you're getting too old."
If you've noticed you are having a harder time taking care of your home and moving around in the community, it's tempting to think that it's just a normal part of aging. You may think that because "everyone" your age seems to be having the same trouble as you that it's something you will have to learn to live with.
You may not know when it was that you started to lose your confidence and when everything became more difficult to manage, but now it's starting to limit what you're able to do on your own. If this is happening to you, you're not alone. We hear these types of things all the time. In fact, Loss of Independence is one of the most common problems we see at HouseFit.
And when it comes to losing your independence, everyone we see wants to know...
"How Do I Avoid Becoming Dependent On Others?"
Most people realize that their strength and independence won't magically get better on its own, but they still don't take action. It might be because they don't know what steps to take to start regaining their strength and ability to move around better OR they don't truly believe mobility and independence can be improved "at their age". Fortunately, there are several options to help you stay active and taking care of yourself as you age. Continue reading to find out more about our Specialty Services.

Rich - 73
from Saint Louis, MO |
After a lengthy hospital stay, followed by months in a rehab facility, Rich returned home with the realization that he wasn't able to do some of the things he used to. His balance, strength and endurance weren't good enough to start working outside in the yard again. He didn't feel comfortable with taking the dog outside on a leash or driving by himself and even started to miss out on things he previously enjoyed, like camping with Boy Scouts as a Scout Leader.
When Rich started therapy with HouseFit, he not only had these goals in mind, but also had a 2-week Mediterranean Cruise scheduled for later in the year. When the time came, Rich was ready for the cruise. He had improved his endurance enough to be able to participate in walking tours. His gained strength allowed him to walk stairs and his improved balance allowed him to conquer cobblestones paths. One of his favorite sites was the Herculaneum Ruins in Italy - a place where he knew he wouldn't have been able to see without the improvements he had made in therapy. |

Six months ago I told my doctor that my physical ability was only at 10%. I even bought a cane in preparation for having to start using it. Since then, I've had Physical Therapy with HouseFit and I told my doctor I feel my ability level is now closer to 95%. My steps are bigger and my speed faster. I can walk up stairs and can keep up with my wife now!
