What is Cognitive Stimulation Therapy?
Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is an evidence-based small group program specifically developed for people with mild to moderate dementia. It was developed in the United Kingdom and has been further studied and implemented in the United States by Saint Louis University's Geriatric Education Center.
The goal of this program is to actively stimulate and engage people with dementia through a series of themed activities designed to help them continue to learn and stay socially engaged. CST can be as effective as medications commonly used to treat the cognitive symptoms of dementia like memory loss and learning. It’s considered to be on the forefront of dementia treatment.

What is the Program?
Program participants may demonstrate improvements in memory, thinking skills, concentration, verbal skills, report decreased depression and report improved quality of life. It is a 7-week program that meets for one hour, twice a week. Sessions will also include 20 minutes of exercise, which has been shown to be beneficial for people with dementia.
After completing the initial 7-week program, participants can transition into a long-term maintenance program. Class size is limited to 8 participants.
Classes for the Memory Program will be held at the same time as some of our other group exercise classes, allowing care partners the opportunity to participate in a group exercise class for themselves. For more information about our classes, please visit our Group Exercise Page.
